Should be an e-book: Make Way For Ducklings

Rating: none

review by BB

Remember Jack, Kack, Lack, Mack, Nack, Ouack, Pack, and Quack? The ducklings in Robert McCloskey's Make Way For Ducklings. The classic picture book was first published in 1941. The illustrations are full of character. The narration takes its time and tells a fulfilling, gentle family story about a mother duckling with the confidence to find the right place to hatch her eggs and bring her ducklings up right in the world.

This story would make an amazing enhanced e-book. The black and white drawings currently have so much life, it's easy to imagine how a faithful publisher could take those drawings and add animation. Every character, whether it's a duck or a cop or a boy on a bike or a man pedaling the swan boats in the Boston Public Garden, has his or her own unique personality. It's easy to imagine how multimedia could bring this to life. A light bit of music and a magical narration could also help engage children in this story.

Come on, please, get creative and make this an enhanced e-book.
